Our Impact

Our flexible and person-centred services empower the people we support to rediscover connection, confidence and companionship in ways which feel meaningful to them.

We understand that every person with deafness or hearing loss has a unique relationship with its impact on their life. The challenges that people face are wide-ranging and significant – deafness and hearing loss can affect someone’s sense of safety, social connections, confidence and mental wellbeing.

Practical support

Overcoming the practical challenges of living with hearing loss can transform someone’s life. This could include being partnered with an assistance dog who will wake them if the smoke alarm sounds or asking for technology to support them in their workplace.

From our hearing dogs who alert to life-saving sounds, to peer support given by our Hearing Link Services volunteers who have experienced hearing loss themselves, the right practical support can help someone to rebuild their confidence and regain their independence.

Talking to others who understood the challenges, sharing my own experiences, and learning more about audiology appointments, enabled me to put in place different strategies for managing my hearing loss.

Emotional support

We understand that for many people, living with deafness or hearing loss has a huge impact on their emotional wellbeing, often causing loneliness, isolation and mental health struggles. Connecting with our community at Hearing Dogs, who understand these challenges, can support someone with a hearing loss.

The emotional impact of Rico’s help has been huge. I generally feel a lot less lonely and much safer with him by my side.”

For one person, being partnered with one of our loving hearing dogs, sound support dogs or companion dogs will be the right route to bring them a sense of companionship and safety. For another person, connecting with someone who has faced similar challenges through our peer support network will be what they need to help them feel that they’re not alone
