What else do you need to know?
There are few main reasons one of our dogs may need a temporary foster home; they may be taking a break from their training, they may be recovering from a medical condition, or they are a hearing dog that may need a place to stay while their partner recovers from a medical condition.
Dogs that require fostering may be of any age with varying exercise needs. Dogs with medical issues may need to be given daily medication, some may require rest and lead-walks only. Some dogs may have behavioural issues that have lead to them being taking a break from their training and therefore may need careful handling. You may also be required to do some additional training work with the dog if required.
Our brilliant Canine Healthcare Team will provide you with any guidance and support required.

Welfare Fostering FAQs
What breeds do you use?
Hearing dogs use Labradors, Cocker Spaniels (Working & Show types), Miniature Poodles and the mixed breed Cockapoos.
Is it ok if I have my own pets?
Yes. If you have a pet dog we will need to assess their temprament before we place a dog with you.
How about children?
Yes, however due to the circumstances of some of our dogs, we advise that this role is probably not suitable for families with children under the age of 10.
How long will I have the dog for?
The time that you would keep the dog can vary from a couple of weeks at a time to several months. We will keep in regular contact with you to ensure that you are fully aware of the length of time that is needed and whether it is possible for the dog to stay.
Can I leave the dog alone at home?
We ask that our dogs are not left for longer than 2-3 hours at a time and not on a regular basis.
I work full time can I foster a dog?
At-home workers may be considered on an individual basis. We look for volunteers who are at home for the majority of the day so the dog is not left on its own for too long.
