What is a hearing dog?
Life can be challenging when you are deaf. You may miss important sounds such as the smoke alarm or doorbell. You can be excluded from social interactions and left feeling isolated.

A hearing dog can make a significant difference and help a deaf person to live well with their hearing loss.
A big part of a hearing dog’s job is to alert their deaf partner to sounds they would otherwise miss at home and work.
Sounds such as the smoke alarm, alarm clock, and even a baby's cry. Being aware of these – thanks to a hearing dog – can make a real difference to deaf people’s lives.
Dogs are a man’s best friend, known for their loyalty and love – and we see these valuable traits in our hearing dogs every day.
They do not just alert their deaf partners to important sounds; they also provide emotional support through the constant companionship they provide.
This is important as many of the deaf people who come to us for help have felt very lonely and isolated.
Our amazing dogs help give deaf people confidence to reconnect with their family, friends, and community, and embrace the life they want to lead.
Hearing Dogs for Deaf People is part of Assistance Dogs UK (ADUK) which means our dogs have been trained to internationally recognised standards.
They have a legal right to accompany their deaf partner to place where pet dogs are not allowed.
We offer three important roles of hearing dog. They are hearing dogs, sound support dogs and companion dogs. This means our dogs can help people with any level of hearing loss.
For some people an assistance dog may not be the right solution for them. If you are looking for another way to support your hearing loss, we offer a range of emotional and practical services that could help, privded through our Hearing Link Services.
