Could you help train our dogs?

We urgently need more volunteers to help our dogs become life-changing hearing dogs. Fill in our quick application form below and help us to train the next generation of hearing dogs.

Our clever hearing dogs are specially trained to alert deaf people to important sounds, like a smoke alarm or a baby's cry. They’re also companions. Their love and emotional support help many deaf people feel less isolated and alone.

A hearing dog can be a life-changing addition, but we can’t do it without our amazing volunteers. Could you help us train our young dogs and help deaf people leave loneliness behind?

Apply to become a volunteer dog trainer

Thank you for your interest in becoming a volunteer dog trainer. Our volunteers play a vital role in helping our dogs become life-changing hearing dogs.

As a volunteer dog trainer, you will need to:

  • provide plenty of time and a safe home
  • live in one of our catchment areas listed below
  • commit to looking after one of our dogs for 6-18 months at a time
  • be patient with dogs whilst they’re still learning
  • work closely with staff and attend regular training sessions
  • be prepared for undesirable behaviours, like accidental toileting and chewing
  • say goodbye to the dog at the end of their time with you.

This application form is designed to check that this role is a good fit and that you have the time needed to follow our training program. It should take you no more than 10 minutes to complete, and we’ll let you know if your application is successful within 5 working days.

If your application is successful, you will be required to:

  • provide two references
  • provide emergency contact details
  • complete an online induction
  • complete in-person home and handling checks as part of your induction
  • pass a pet dog check for any dogs living in the home.

Once approved, we can then confirm your voluntary position. We hope to welcome you to our team soon!
