Sponsor Buttons: An easy-going and cheerful friend

Buttons wants to give you a ‘boop’! With a nose for sniffing out fun, this beautiful girl brightens every day with her comforting company. Sure to melt your heart, Buttons has some of the best ‘puppy dog eyes’ we’ve ever seen (and trust us, that’s a big statement!) What’s more, our little Labrador is on her way to transforming a deaf person’s life.

Buttons has been settling in brilliantly with her Volunteer Dog Trainer, Bridget, and her housemates, Bridget’s two pet Labradors. However, when it comes to having fun, this independent pup is equally happy to play on her own or with her canine friends.

“Buttons has taken to life at home like a duck to water,” shared Bridget. “She loves zooming around the lounge first thing in the morning which makes me laugh! Although she is excitable, there is also a calmness about her.” Well Buttons, it certainly sounds like you know how to start the day right!

Loveable through and through, Buttons really is as cute as – well – a button! She may only be at the start of her life-changing journey, but just like her glossy black coat, this young puppy is already beginning to shine.

When my wife passed away in 2007, I became isolated and depressed. I was also very worried about not hearing the smoke or fire alarm. I often set the portable timer to remind me about appointments and cooking. Arya tells me about them by nudging me with her nose. She once woke me up when the fire alarm went off! Arya has opened up a whole new world to me.

How your puppy sponsorship will help

You'll help a puppy become a life-changing hearing dog. They'll stop a deaf person feeling isolated and alone, and alert them to sounds they can't hear including the doorbell and the fire alarm.

Training Progress: Buttons on her best behaviour

In the early stages of a hearing dog’s training, we focus on teaching puppies their basic cues, such as ‘Sit’, ‘Down’ and ‘Wait’, encouraging them to listen to their trainers and be rewarded for it. At home, Buttons has been practising these cues at mealtimes, by being asked to sit and wait while her food bowl is put down. We’re proud to share that after just a few days, Buttons was able to master beautiful table manners!

How many ‘aww’s can Buttons receive throughout her training? Will her coat become even shinier? And which deaf person will she grow up to support? Sponsor Buttons today to find out!
