This month in training: April 2026

Maggie and Clover look extra smart in their new burgundy training jackets, little Amber makes a great start to her early hearing dog training, and a very clever Cockapoo with an extra special name celebrates passing her final training assessment.

1. Maggie and Clover are showing off their new burgundy training jackets

Cocker Spaniel Maggie and Labrador Clover have been awarded their Hearing Dogs burgundy training jacket after passing the second stage of training – the Puppy 2 Star

Reaching this milestone means Maggie and Clover have started to gain experience in the public places they will visit with their future deaf partners.

Both girls did a super job maintaining their focus on trips with their volunteer dog trainers, and they will build on these over the next few months.

2. Coffee, cake, and a very clever Sorrel!

Cockapoo Sorrel has been working on settling in different environments with her volunteer dog trainer to build the skills she'll use with her future deaf partner.

Settling is an important skill for any hearing dog, as we want our pups to be relaxed and comfortable in any of the public places they visit.

Keep up the good work, Sorrel.

3. Cassie was the perfect passenger on her train journey

Cocker Spaniel Cassie has been travelling on trains to build her confidence on public transport.

As Cassie’s future deaf partner might travel by train or bus, it’s incredibly important she feels comfortable with the unusual sounds, smells, and movements.

Not fazed one bit, Cassie kept her focus and took everything in her stride.

Great job, Cassie!

4. Amber has made a great start on her journey to be a life-changing hearing dog

Amber has passed the first stage of her hearing dog training – the Puppy 1 Star.

She's done a brilliant job learning her basic cues such as 'Sit', 'Down' and 'Wait', as well as confidently investigating lots of new sights, sounds and smells.

Next up for Amber will be working on her recall and impulse control as she heads into her Puppy 2 Star.

Well done Team Amber.

5. A big celebration for a very clever Cockapoo with a very special name...

Huge congratulations to Favour, who has passed her assessment to be a life-changing hearing dog.

The name Favour has a special place in Hearing Dogs history. Our first ever dog was called Favour and he travelled across the UK with our first dog trainer Tony Blunt to raise awareness of the charity. It is also the name of our supporter magazine.

Favour has certainly done the name very proud, and she has had an amazing team behind her every step of the way.

6. Join Cockapoo Marco on his trip into town!

Marco is in the final stage of his hearing dog training, and he has been gaining experience in busy public places.

Marco did a super job in a café and was then the perfect customer walking in and around the shops.

Well done, Marco!
