Episode 3:
A super start for Sprout!
Posted by Elizabeth Murphy
Welcome back to Sprout’s Puppy Pen!
Your fluffy sponsor pup is making wonderful progress in his early training. In fact, he’s already started learning some of his basic cues, such as ‘sit’ and ‘wait’. Let’s see Sprout practise these with Linda, his Volunteer Dog Trainer.

What a clever boy! As shown in the video, Sprout receives lots of praise and some tasty treats for sitting and waiting so patiently. Responding to cues will be hugely important throughout Sprout’s journey to becoming a hearing dog. As he grows, Sprout will learn to sit and wait in lots of different situations and environments, such as in a supermarket or on public transport. That’s why it’s brilliant that he’s building confidence in these important skills from an early age.
For a young pup, every day brings the excitement of discovering something new for the very first time. Recently, Sprout found the door stop in his home and was fascinated by the intriguing ‘boing’ sound it makes!

As well as being adorable, it’s lovely to see Sprout’s curiosity. Exploring new textures and sounds around the home is a fantastic way for him to build confidence with unfamiliar experiences, helping to prepare him for the many new adventures he’ll encounter throughout his hearing dog training.
That’s nearly it for today’s episode! But before we go, here’s another cute video of Sprout having fun and zooming around the garden with one of his favourite toys.
