Episode 3

New adventures for Hebe

Posted by Elizabeth Murphy

Welcome back to Hebe’s Puppy Pen!

Little Hebe has been having some big adventures!

As part of her training to feel confident in new environments, Hebe has been enjoying walking on her lead and exploring the big wide world. Learning to walk nicely on her lead is an important skill that Hebe will practise every day throughout her training (weather permitting!)

There are lots of distractions for a puppy to navigate while out on a walk, such as wildlife, intriguing smells and other people and dogs – it can all be so exciting! But as a future hearing dog, we want Hebe to calmly walk alongside her deaf partner, so it is important she gradually learns to stay focused and not pull on her lead.

So far, clever Hebe is doing a super job of demonstrating how well she can keep her concentration and ignore distractions around her. Every time Hebe shows how beautifully she can walk on her lead, she is rewarded with lots of praise, which encourages her to repeat this brilliant behaviour.

Well done, Hebe!

In other news, Hebe was a superstar on her recent trip to the vets. Regular health and grooming checks are important to keep Hebe happy and healthy, so we want to make sure that she feels relaxed and comfortable being handled.
