Episode 4:
Let's catch up with Amber!
Posted by Elizabeth Murphy
Welcome back to Amber’s Puppy Pen!
A couple of episodes ago, we showed you Amber sleeping in her toy basket. Amber may be a bit bigger now, but she still manages to squeeze into it! We can’t blame her – who wouldn’t want to be surrounded by all their favourite toys?!
Amber’s toy basket isn’t the only box that she has been getting into. She has also discovered that a cardboard box makes a great puppy playhouse!
We are delighted to share that Amber is doing brilliantly in her early training.
Here she is with Amanda, her Volunteer Dog Trainer, perfecting her basic cues of ‘sit’, ‘down’ and ‘wait’.

Regularly practising these basic cues is a great way for Amber to perfect her listening skills and maintain a strong bond with Amanda. A strong relationship between a pup and trainer is key to a successful hearing dog training journey!
Amber has also been working on her off-lead recall skills with Amanda. There are many interesting sights, smells and sounds on a walk which have the potential to be distracting. This is why recall skills are so important. We want Amber’s future deaf partner to feel confident that Amber will always come back when called.

Amber does a super job of running back to Amanda, despite the sight of another potential dog friend in the distance!
Back home now and it’s time for Amber to have a snuggle and snooze with her favourite teddy.
We are so proud of Amber and we hope you are too. Her training to become a life-changing hearing dog would not be possible without your incredible support.
So, from all of us at Hearing Dogs, thank you for sponsoring Amber.
Hello, I’m Elizabeth and I work in the puppy sponsorship team. I am very lucky to get to know lots of the adorable pups who are training to be life-changing hearing dogs – they really are amazing!
