Volunteers of the Month - November 2024 - Pam & David White
Posted by Victoria Leedham
Hearing Link Services volunteers Pam and David White, from Buckinghamshire, have been volunteering for over three years in a variety of roles however can be reliably found in our warehouse each week, kindly and very competently taking care of literature orders.
On arrival at The Grange they set about whatever they find in their regularly overflowing in-tray; this is often a flurry of requests for literature from members of the public, professionals in the sensory or audiology fields, or beneficiaries. At key times in the year, they also busily prepare sets of equipment and literature for conferences, events and LinkUp support groups. Most recently they’ve stepped in to support a big mailing to hearing dog partnerships in the community, as well as helped to manage hearing loss products stock levels for our online shop.
External Relationship & Communications Manager, Lorna Armstrong, explains: “Pam and David are a fantastic asset to our charity. Without them, we would not be able to fulfil the large number of requests we receive each week for information about our Hearing Link Services offering. They play a pivotal role in raising awareness not only of our charity brands, but the support that many deaf people and those living with hearing loss need."
Communications Executive, Penny Perry, adds: “I feel very fortunate to have the help of Pam and David in the warehouse. They are completely unflappable, utterly dependable and an awful lot of fun to work with. Their volunteer roles are not visible to many, but the work they do spreads the word about Hearing Link Services to professionals, beneficiaries and a host of people finding out about our services for the first time. They deserve every recognition for their hard work and commitment behind the scenes”.
The community-minded couple first became aware of Hearing Link Services when they attended a Rotary dinner at The Grange some years ago. In the following months, they had conversations with staff members Sue Benham and Katherine Mardell to find out more about Hearing Link Services, though their initial offer of support was unfortunately halted overnight when the Covid pandemic hit in 2020.
Service Delivery Manager, Nicholas Orpin, brings matters up to date: “Nowadays, not only do Pam and David help out each week in the warehouse, but they are very often found on Hearing Link Services stands at events. Rain, sleet or sun, Pam and David have been in attendance at the Great British Dog Walk at Waddesdon Manor, the Hearing Information Day and the Christmas Market at The Grange, in fact just about anything we ask them to help with, including videos and photoshoots!"
Claire Bott, Central Support Advisor, adds: “Pam and David have been such a great help with preparations for our LinkUp weekends, I'm always grateful to know the ‘warehouse elves’ will have my equipment and literature orders ready in plenty of time. They’ve even started helping make up the delegate packs which has been brilliant.”
Suffice as to say the Charity is hugely thankful to Pam and David for their unwavering, regular commitment to such an unshowy, but much relied upon role in our warehouse as our fulfilment specialists, as well as the good humour and exemplary work ethic they bring to their volunteering.
