This month in training: September 2024
Posted by Matt Sadler
Bailey has been on her first train journey, Juno is the proud owner of a burgundy training jacket, and join Cockapoo Orin on his trip into town.
It’s time to go behind the scenes and find out what our future life-changing hearing dogs have been learning in their training.
1. All aboard for Bailey
Brilliant Bailey is doing so well in the third stage of her hearing dog training and this photo was taken on her first ever train journey.
Our very clever Cocker Spaniel is doing a super job getting used to the unusual sights, sounds and movements, and is proving to be the perfect passenger.
2. Is that a new training jacket, Juno?
Congratulations to Cockapoo Juno for passing the second stage of her hearing dog training and becoming the proud owner of her very own training jacket!
Next up for Juno will be practising in the public places she will visit with her future deaf partner, such as shops and cafes, as well as getting used to travelling on public transport.
3. Teddy always keeps his focus brilliantly
The most tempting aisle of all, but that didn't stop hearing dog in training Teddy from keeping his concentration.
Hearing dogs accompany their deaf partner to many public places, such as supermarkets, and it's vital they understand all the tasty foods and treats on display are not for them.
Teddy did such a great job and thoroughly enjoyed his tasty treat afterwards for doing such a great job.
4. Magical Merlin
Huge congratulations to magical Merlin, who has passed his final training assessment to be a life-changing hearing dog!
5. Orin is off into town
We followed our clever Cockapoo on a training trip to a local town to see how he got on!
Orin is in the third stage of his hearing dog training, the Puppy 3 Star, and we think he did a super job keeping his focus whilst browsing through the stores.
He showed off his excellent 'sit' and 'wait' and his fluffy tail was too cute to see peeking behind the shelves.
6. River is learning how to alert her future deaf partner to sounds
Cocker Spaniel River has just started learning how to alert her future deaf partner to important and potentially life-saving sounds, and she is doing such a great job already!
You will see River alerting her trainer to a doorbell and timer, and this is where our clever cocker spaniel nudges with her nose before leading her trainer to the sound.
You will also watch River alerting to a smoke alarm - here she immediately lies down instead to indicate it is a danger sound.
