This month in training: September 2023

Posted by Matt Sadler

Sapphire and Harper have been shopping, Milo was the perfect passenger on his train journey, a very happy Harold is celebrating amazing news, and much more. Go behind the scenes and find out what our clever pups have been learning.

1. Sapphire is the paw-fect customer

Cockapoo Sapphire is sitting at a Marks & Spencer store

The very precious Sapphire has been shopping as part of her hearing dog training.

As a hearing dog accompanies their deaf partner to many public places every day, it is important they are comfortable in these environments, and Sapphire showed lovely focus on her volunteer trainer.

2. Harper does the weekly food shop

Harper has also been busy training in a shop environment, and she did brilliantly in a busy supermarket.

There are lots of potential distractions in supermarkets, such as items on shelves, trolleys, and many people, so it's vital our dogs remain focused on the person they are with.

3. Bracken shows off her super settle

Beautiful Bracken did a fab job as she practised settling at a garden centre café.

Settling is a key skill for any hearing dog when they go to public places with their partner, and our clever cocker spaniel was relaxed and comfortable in a new environment.

4. All aboard for Milo

Cockapoo Milo is sitting on the floor of a train

Marvellous Milo has been busy getting used to public transport, and here he is on a recent train journey.

If Milo's future deaf partner uses public transport then it's important he feels comfortable with the experience, and our clever cockapoo is doing brilliantly.

5. Amber is such a clever pup!

The lovely Amber has been working on maintaining her focus, and she did such a great job with her volunteer trainer.

Keeping focused on their deaf partner is an important skill for any hearing dog to have, and Amber is doing so well for such a young pup.

6. Harold is a superstar

A very happy Harold is celebrating passing the third stage of his hearing dog training - the Puppy 3 Star.

Harold has been busy practising in public places and on public transport, and he is now getting ready to start the final stage of his training.

This is where Harold will focus on learning the sounds he will alert his future deaf partner to.

You've got this, Harold!

7. Paddy is going to be a life-changing hearing dog!

Wonderful news to bring you as Paddy is going to be a life-changing hearing dog after passing his final assessment.

Paddy has grown into such a clever and happy boy, and you will see him alert to the doorbell and also perform the danger signal to a smoke alarm and fire siren.

Paddy has had an amazing team behind him throughout his training and the biggest thank you must go to them.

Congratulations 'Team Paddy'.
