This month in training: October 2024
Posted by Matt Sadler
Miniature poodle Raven is doing so well training in the public places she'll visit with her future deaf partner and she showed such lovely focus during her shopping trip.
As Raven will accompany her deaf partner to many different venues every day, it's important that she feels relaxed and comfortable in a number of different environments.
Well done, Raven!
2. Our adventurous duo have been to the train station
Cocker Spaniel River and Miniature Poodle Pip have been to a station to get used to all those new sights, sounds and smells.
The best friends will go on a train journey together soon, but making sure all of our hearing dogs in training are comfortable with each new experience is a very important first step.
3. Orla and Jasmine are much better than us at resisting treats!
A little bit of homework for Orla (left) and Jasmine, as they showed off their lovely waits despite the tasty treats.
Impulse control is an important skill for any happy and relaxed dog to have, and Orla and Jasmine thoroughly enjoyed their rewards for a job well done.
Orla is in the second stage of her hearing dog training and Jasmine has recently passed her assessment to be a child's hearing dog.
One star, two star, Fig's a star!
4. Poppy is picking up new skills so quickly

Cocker Spaniel is also celebrating reaching a milestone as she has passed the second stage of her hearing dog training. This means that Alba now has her very own burgundy training jacket which she will wear when training in public places and on public transport.
Alba has already started to explore the shops, working on her basic cues like 'Sit' and 'Wait' and keeping her focus with her volunteer dog trainer.
Keep up the great work 'Team Alba'.
6. Fabulous Fig has some fantastic news...
From two pups doing a brilliant job in their training, to an superstar who has just passed her final assessment...
Congratulations to the wonderful Fig, who is going to be a life-changing hearing dog!
Our clever Cockapoo has been an absolute joy to train and the biggest thank you must go to her incredible team who have been behind Fig every step of the way.
Next up for Fig is the very exciting moment of meeting her deaf partner for the first time.
7. A round of applause for Nutmeg
Nutmeg has just started to visit public places and he was a credit to his volunteer dog trainer during his first trip to a garden centre.
Garden centres are the perfect introduction to public spaces for hearing dogs in training, as they are quiet and relaxed venues with lots of interesting new smells to investigate.
Nutmeg did a brilliant job keeping focused on his trainer and even showed off his super settle in the cafe afterwards.
Sponsor a puppy and change a deaf person's life
These cute puppies are training to become life-changers. Sponsor them from £5 a month and follow their journey as they learn how to help a deaf person.
