This month in training: November 2024

Posted by Matt Sadler

Mowgli and Pip have been to the supermarket, Baloo has reached an early training milestone, Morris shows off his super sound alerts and much more. Find out what our clever pups have been learning in their hearing dog training.

1. Mowgli and Pip do the weekly food shop

Little and large? It's Mowgli and Pip taking on the supermarket.

Our clever pups will visit lots of supermarkets during their training to get comfortable with strange items like trolleys and tills, as well as working on their focus and impulse control to resist all the tasty temptations.

2. Brilliant Baloo

Cocker Spaniel Baloo has made a great start to his hearing dog training, and he has passed the first stage, which is called the Puppy 1 Star.

Baloo has been busy investigating the world around him, learning his basic cues like 'sit' and 'wait', and of course, having as much fun as possible.

Well done, Baloo!

3. Gus is such a clever pup
Cockapoo Gus is visiting new public places in the final stages of his hearing dog training, and he took a trip to the chemist in his stride.

As hearing dogs accompany their deaf partners to many places every day, it's vital they are comfortable in these environments, and Gus showed such lovely focus on his volunteer dog trainer.

4. Enid's big adventure

Enid has been out on a big adventure, and that happy smile says it all.

Our clever cocker spaniel is in the final stages of her hearing dog training and recently took a trip into Oxford on the bus.

She's been building her experience in busier public places, like shopping centres and cafes for when she's out with her future deaf partner.

It's so important Enid feels comfortable with the unusual sounds and movements of the bus, in case her future deaf partner travels by public transport, and Enid did a great job.

5. A round of a-paws for Pasha

A huge congratulations to Cocker Spaniel Pasha, who has been awarded his jacket for passing the second stage of hearing dog training.

Pasha will now start practising in busier public places like shops and cafés, as well as getting used to travelling by train and bus.

Great job, Pasha.

6. Nico has met his first celebrity!

Hearing dogs can come across some unusual objects when out with their deaf partner, so it's important they aren't fazed by any new sights and sounds, and Nico was happy to stop for a photo with his new friend.

We did have to let Paddington Bear know that, unfortunately, marmalade sandwiches are not the perfect treat for a job well done (much to Nico's displeasure).

7. Morris' super sound alerts

Mighty Morris recently passed his final assessment to be a hearing dog and here he is showing off his soundwork during training.

You'll see our clever Cockapoo perform the danger signal to a smoke alarm, as well as alerting his trainer to a timer and doorbell.

Sponsor a puppy and change a deaf person's life

These cute puppies are training to become life-changers. Sponsor them from £5 a month and follow their journey as they learn how to help a deaf person.
