This month in training: November 2023
Posted by Matt Sadler
Cocker spaniel pup Skye has raced through the first stage of her hearing dog training, Amber has been on an adventure to a garden centre, and the very sweet Rebel has some amazing news to tell you. Go behind the scenes and find out what our clever pups have been learning.
1. Superstar Skye
The Skye's the limit for our clever cocker spaniel, who has passed the first stage of her hearing dog training.
Skye has done so well learning her basic cues like 'sit' and 'wait', and she has shown that she can play nicely with other puppies and people (and her big Winnie the Pooh).

2. Amber has been on an adventure
The lovely Amber has reached an important milestone in her training as she has been on her first visit to a garden centre.
Garden centres are one of the first places we introduce our dogs to as they are relaxed environments with lots of interesting sights, sounds and smells.
Amber did so well on her adventure and she will visit busier places as she progresses through her hearing dog training.
3. Chip's shopping
Chip showed off his lovely settle and fab focus during a shopping trip with his volunteer trainer.
Going shopping with his deaf partner will be an everyday task for Chip once he has graduated, and our clever cocker spaniel waited so patiently.
4. Are we there yet?
The lovely MJ was so relaxed on her train journey and was definitely the perfect passenger.
MJ has been going on lots of short trips to help her feel comfortable with the unusual movements and new sounds, and she is doing brilliantly!
5. Merlin is the paw-fect customer
Magical Merlin did a fab job practising settling at a café.
Settling is a key skill for any hearing dog when they go to public places with their partner, and our clever cockapoo was relaxed and comfortable in a new environment.
Well done Merlin!
6. Orbit is flying through his hearing dog training
Huge congratulations to awesome Orbit for passing the third stage of his hearing dog training.
Orbit has been busy practising in public places and on public transport, and our clever Labrador is now getting ready to start the final part of his training.
This is where Orbit will focus on learning all the sounds he will alert his future deaf partner to, and we know he will be a soundwork superstar!
7. Rebel with a cause
Her name may be Rebel, but our very clever cocker spaniel is an absolute sweetheart and she is celebrating passing her assessment to be a hearing dog.
You will see Rebel alerting to a doorbell and an alarm clock, as well as performing the danger signal to a smoke alarm.
Congratulations to Rebel and her amazing team.
