This month in training: January 2022
Posted by Matt Sadler
Little Lyra has some very good news, Ned has been exploring and Austin's soundwork is amazing! All this and more as we find out what our clever pups and hearing dogs in training have been up to.
1. Little Lyra is a superstar!
Cocker spaniel Lyra has received her certificate for passing the first stage of hearing dog training!
Lyra is such a sweet girl, who is doing brilliantly in her early training. We are so proud of her.
You can find out what Lyra will be learning during her 'Puppy Two Star' training here.
2. Great job Gerry
Gerry proved he is far better than us at resisting treats as he did a great job practising his impulse control.
Self control is important for any happy and relaxed dog, and Gerry thoroughly enjoyed his tasty rewards for waiting so patiently.
3. You're looking so smart Fearne
Clever Fearne is getting used to wearing her burgundy jacket before she starts training in public places.
Fearne will start practising in quiet shops and cafes once she has passed the second stage of her training, and we know she will take the new environments in her stride.
4. Awesome Austin
Cocker spaniel Austin showed the results of his training with this amazing alert to a smoke alarm.
Our dogs alert to most sounds by leading their partner to the source.
However, the danger signal saw Austin lie down, so he didn't take his trainer into a hazardous situation.
5. Watch out world, Ned is coming!
Little Ned has been on his first ever off-lead walk.
All those recall games paid off and Ned even stopped playing with some new friends to come back for his treat.
Well done Ned!
6. Eric is a very popular fundraiser
Hearing dog puppy Eric showed some lovely focus when he attended a fundraising event before Christmas.
Not only did Eric help to spread awareness about Hearing Dogs, but the event was also the perfect opportunity for him to practise being in public places.
7. Congratulations Ember
Amazing news to bring you as miniature poodle Ember has passed her assessment to be a life-changing hearing dog.
You'll see Ember on a train and in a supermarket, as well as alerting to a cooker timer and fire siren.
Congratulations and thank you so much to 'Team Ember'.
