This month in training: April 2024

Posted by Matt Sadler

It’s been a busy month for our pups as they’ve been out and about learning and exploring. Alfie took a train trip, Kimi visited Specsavers, and Aidan has passed his assessment to be a hearing dog.

1. All aboard with Alfie

Alfie has ticked off a milestone in the third stage of his hearing dog training and was the perfect passenger on his first train trip.

Our hearing dogs might accompany their deaf partner on all kinds of public transport, so trips like these are an important part of hearing dog training to make sure pups like Alfie are relaxed with the experience - and Alfie did a fab job!

2. Puppy class sure is tyre-ing

Henny isn't too impressed with our puns, but has been loving her puppy classes and doing so well.

She's in the first stage of her training, the Puppy 1 Star, where she's been learning her basic cues like 'sit' and getting to explore lots of new sights and smells.

3. Should have to Specsavers – like Kimi

Kimi did a brilliant job on a recent visit to Specsavers with her volunteer trainer. She kept her focus and settled in store beautifully, even with all the distracting items.

Now in the final stage of her hearing dog training, Kimi is going over all the training she’s been working on to make sure she’s as happy and confident as she can be with everything she’s learnt.

4. Congratulations Grayson

Grayson is a very proud puppy who has passed the first stage of his puppy training - the Puppy 1 Star.

He’s been working on his basic cues like ‘sit’ and ‘wait’ and is doing wonderfully in his training. We can't wait to see what Grayson gets up to as he heads into the next stage of his training and starts to explore new and exciting environments.

5. Aidan is going to be a life-changing hearing dog

This clever Cocker Spaniel passed his final assessment to become a hearing dog and we’re so very proud!

You'll see Aidan grow from an incredibly cute puppy into such a clever boy, and watch him alert to a timer, the doorbell and a fire siren. Aidan has done so incredibly well during training and will make such a huge difference to his future deaf partner.

6. Train training with Oakley, Gizmo, and Holly

These three pups took a trip to their local train station for a bit of exploring.

Before venturing out on trains and other forms of public transport, it’s so important that our dogs feel comfortable in the often busy stations with lots of noises and smells. To make sure they’re as confident as they can be in these new areas, they first go for a bit of exploring! They enjoy a bit of train spotting, venture into the elevators, and people watch the commuters hopping off and on their trains.

Sponsor a puppy and change a deaf person's life

These cute puppies are training to become life-changers. Sponsor them from £5 a month and follow their journey as they learn how to help a deaf person.
