This month in training: April 2022
Posted by Matt Sadler
Pluto, Elvis and Gerry have been learning all about public transport, cocker spaniel puppy Aled has started his training and wonderful Wish has some very special news. It has been a busy few weeks for our clever hearing dogs in training.
1. All aboard for Pluto
Pluto was the perfect passenger on his first train journey.
As hearing dogs may use public transport when accompanying their deaf partner, it's important they are comfortable and relaxed with the experience.
Cocker spaniel Elvis and Labrador Gerry have also been learning all about trains and visited a station to get used to the many new sights, sounds and smells.
Well done everyone!
2. Jessica showed her lovely focus
Cocker spaniel Jessica showed fab focus on her volunteer trainer during a trip to a café.
There are lots of potential distractions for our dogs when out in public places, so it's important they keep their attention on the person they are with.
Well done Jessica!
3. Buddy is making us so proud
Hearing dog in training Buddy was a superstar during his visit to a hospital.
As hearing dogs accompany their deaf partner to lots of public places, like hospitals, audiologists and restaurants, it is incredibly important they are comfortable in these environments.
4. Drew is learning to relax in new environments
Cockapoo Drew has been practising settling in public places, and just look at those eyes!
That's such a lovely settle Drew.
5. Say hello to Aled
We thought you might like to meet cocker spaniel puppy Aled.
Aled is at the very start of his hearing dog training and is looking forward to having as much fun as possible.
The first stage of Aled's training is called the 'Puppy One Star' and this where he will learn his basic cues like 'sit' and 'wait', as well as being encouraged to investigate lots of new objects.
6. Wonderful Wish
From a pup at the start of their training to a very clever girl, who has passed her final assessment to be a hearing dog...
Congratulations to wonderful Wish!
You will see Wish grow from a very cute puppy practising her wait, into a gorgeous girl showing just how clever she is by alerting to a fire siren and smoke alarm.
