Tania's Volunteering Story

Tania, along with husband Keith, has been volunteering for Hearing Dogs for Deaf People for over 12 years now, and we are so grateful for all her hard work. There's not many things this super-lady can't do! Not only is she a brilliant Volunteer Puppy Trainer, she is also a fundraiser, treasurer for the North Hants & Surrey Boarders Fundraising Group and a speaker.
Tania initially approached our Charity as she wanted a dog but was unsure of the financial and long-term commitment of becoming an owner. When she came across our puppy socialising scheme, she felt it ticked all the boxes for what suited her current situation. However, as Tania comments, volunteering at Hearing Dogs has become so much more than just about the dogs. "Since my volunteering journey started my life has changed in so many ways. I have gained skills I never expected to have, dog training, dog behaviour, BSL, deaf awareness. Met so many different people, through dog walking, fundraising, meeting recipients, other socialisers and staff. The dogs keep me fit give companionship and entertainment. I have stepped out of my comfort zone and survived."
Tania shared some words of wisdom for anyone considering joining our Charity as a volunteer; "Just do it! You will discover so much laughter, joy, and friendship. There is support from the Hearing Dog family - volunteers and staff - every step of the way and the day you hear ‘your’ puppy has passed tests and has been successfully matched will have the proudest feeling!"
