Hearing Dogs volunteer receives Points of Light award

Posted by Matt Sadler

We are so proud to announce that our wonderful volunteer Irene has been awarded a Points of Light award by the Prime Minister.

The daily Points of Light award recognises outstanding individual volunteers who are making a change in their community, and Irene is a very deserving recipient.

From raising litters of tiny puppies, to raising thousands of pounds, Irene has made an outstanding contribution to Hearing Dogs since she first started volunteering for the Charity back in 2010.

Head of volunteering Victoria Leedham said: “Irene is unassuming, kind, smiley and, with hearing loss herself, acutely aware of the purpose of her volunteering.

“Her nurturing role means she fosters Cocker Spaniels that go on to produce hearing dogs of the future. It’s a role that requires unwavering commitment to Hearing Dogs, as well as exceptional care of our hearing dog mums and their litters.”

Irene added: “Holding a new-born puppy is a miracle.

“Looking after puppies who go on to change a deaf person’s life is already incredibly rewarding. To receive this award and know that I was nominated by this fantastic Charity, which is very dear to my heart, is truly humbling.”

Congratulations Irene!
