Getting to know cocker spaniel River

Posted by Matt Sadler

We caught up with puppy trainer Heather to see how cocker spaniel River is getting on in his hearing dog training.

How would you describe River?
He loves everyone and everything!

Does River have any quirks?
Other than his quirky quiff? When he wants to say hello, he will sit and wiggle, staring up at you until you say hi - it's adorable.

How does he behave around other dogs?
He loves other dogs - very much at the 'bundle' stage, which is normal for puppies of his age.

What do you enjoy most about training River?
He is so smart, phased by nothing and incredibly quick to learn.

What is River currently learning?
We are learning how to walk nicely on the lead and how to wait patiently whilst we have a cup of tea in a quiet cafe.

What is he doing really well?
He is very good in puppy classes and is able to focus on the activity being asked of him, despite how exciting it is!

What does he need to practice?
He needs to practice that he can't say hello to everyone!

What will River be learning next?
The next thing we are going to learn is how to behave walking about in a shop.
