David Hay

David Hay, and his wife Jilly, are big-hearted, long-term Hearing Dogs volunteers.

For 35 years, David was a local solicitor, becoming Senior Partner, before retiring in 2008. David had considerable experience of trust work generally, including acting for the National Trust and The Landmark Trust, as well as responsibility for the financial health of his firm as Managing Partner.

David understands the challenges of hearing loss. He has partial hearing loss himself and has met and spoken to many of the Charity’s deaf partners over the years about their individual experiences of deafness.

David and Jilly became volunteers in 2003. Almost all of their spare time was taken up training hearing dogs who have gone on to transform deaf people’s lives, until David sadly had a life-changing accident in 2020.

A year later Ambassador dog Fizz moved into their home. Fizz quickly became a very important part of their lives. She is a black miniature poodle who is a regular visitor to The Grange. Fizz has quickly become a much-loved part of the Hearing Dogs family.

In his spare time David enjoys reading, and doing quizzes and crosswords.
