Two marathons in two weeks... Malcolm Holmes’ story

Paris one weekend, London the next! Marathon runner Malcolm Holmes, who works for Chiltern Railways, is not one to shy away from a challenge and we managed to catch up with him when his feet were finally firmly on the ground to find out how it went.

Hearing Dogs runner Malcolm Holmes

What was the highlight for you?
One of the great things about today was the crowd at Mile 19 when I passed the Hearing Dogs for Deaf People Cheering Point. It was a great lift. Another thing that helped was that I ran for about five miles from Canary Wharf along the Embankment to Tower Hill with Rob (one of the other ‘Buddie Runners’) and that did help.

I’ve run Dublin, Edinburgh, New York and Paris, but London is the best in the world, without a doubt! The crowd is the best by far!

What other challenge events have you done in the past?
In 2010 I did twelve marathons in twelve months and I did an Iron Man run last year. I also did the Paris marathon last weekend.

How did the London Marathon compare to the Paris marathon?
Overall, the crowd at London was much better – fantastic all the way. But Paris was a really nice route and I got my best time of 3.19.04. This one was 3.32.27.

Would you run another marathon?
I’d like to go for 3.15. I think I’ve got 3.15 in me... somewhere!

Thanks Malcolm.

This year our Buddie Running Team was made up of 44 amazing runners who have raised over £45,000 and counting! Click here to see some photos from the day.
