Remember A Charity Week (September 12 – 18)

Hearing Dogs for Deaf People is supporting Remember A Charity Week – a week-long awareness raising event which aims to highlight the importance of leaving gifts in wills to UK charities.

Remember a Charity WeekLegacies remain vital to the survival of all UK charities, particularly ones like Hearing Dogs for Deaf People who solely depend on the money raised by its fundraisers and supporters across the country.

To raise some much-needed awareness of legacies, Hearing Dogs for Deaf People have joined forces with Remember A Charity, the largest consortium of its kind in the UK working to promote legacy giving.

Currently, around 35 per cent of the population say they would consider including a gift to a charity after providing for their family and friends in their will. Just seven per cent actually do so meaning there is huge potential to increase income from legacies.

Allegra Scott, Head of Fundraising at Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, said: “We are delighted to support Remember A Charity Week. As a non-government funded charity, we rely heavily on the money raised through our wonderful supporters’ efforts. The generosity of legacy giving very often represents the most significant gift that someone will make to us and thus ensuring that our work carries on for many years to come.”

“Events like Remember A Charity Week help raise awareness of legacy giving and highlight its importance to a charity like Hearing Dogs for Deaf People.”

According to Remember A Charity, should income to the charity sector rise by just four per cent, an extra £1 billion would be generated for all UK charities.

Such additional cash would make a huge difference to Hearing Dogs for Deaf People.

Currently the lifetime cost of a hearing dog is around £45,000 – the service being free to all hearing dog recipients.

There are over 750 hearing dog partnerships across the UK creating greater levels of independence, confidence and security to deaf people. Since Hearing Dogs for Deaf People launched in 1983, over 1,600 partnerships have been set up nationwide.
