Tilly, an adorable 13-month old black Labrador, stared alongside three other canines in a feature about rehoming working dogs.
She was progressing fantastically well through her puppy training to become a life-changing hearing dog for a deaf person when she sadly developed a medical condition that meant she could no longer become a working assistance dog.
Earlier this year, Tilly had a detached retina and Glaucoma in her left eye. The sight was lost so the eye specialist recommended removing the eye to prevent problems in the future. Tilly also has a cataract in her right eye, which means she may lose all her sight in the future if an operation is not successful.
The Charity is currently searching for a loving home for Tilly where she will be well cared for in her new life as a pet dog, rather than a working assistance dog.
Due to Tilly’s medical condition a suitable home has not yet be found. The Charity hopes that Tilly featuring on the programme will help find her a new home with a viewer of The Alan Titchmarsh Show.
Tilly is a young Labrador, full of fun and energy. She has a cheeky side to her character, but is a real softie who loves her teddy bear toys.
The ideal type of home would be with people who have owned Labradors before and are willing to accept that Tilly may one day lose her sight and need extra support to help her get used to this. Families with older children would be fine.
A charity spokesperson says: “We always ensure that we find a loving home for every puppy that has to be withdrawn from training due to reasons such as medical or behavioural problems.
“Tilly is a special case due to her deteriorating sight, but we are confident that the right home will be found and that she will enjoy a long and happy life.”
