EastEnders actress Pam St Clement is supporting the launch of Hearing Dogs for Deaf People’s new Puppy Sponsorship scheme being unveiled at Crufts 2011. The new scheme is being introduced to help fund the hearing dog puppies of the future, as the Charity focuses attention on increasing the number of dogs it can train each year in order to meet the growing demand for its life-changing service from deaf people of all ages across the UK.
Puppy sponsors will be able to follow one of the Charity’s pups on its inspirational journey to become hearing dog from initial puppy socialisation training (introduction to basic obedience and different types of sights, smells and environments) through to advanced soundwork training at one of the Charity’s Training Centres and finally placement with a deaf recipient.
Says Pam St Clement: “The benefits of hearing dogs are so profound and far-reaching that the Charity needs to ensure it can train more puppies each year to meet demand for its services and reduce waiting list times. But this costs money; the breeding, training, placement and life-long care of each hearing dog costs around £45,000. By sponsoring a hearing dog puppy from as little as £3 a month, you can help fund more hearing dog puppies who will one day go on to provide a life-changing level of independence, confidence and security to a deaf person.”
Hearing dogs are provided free of charge to their deaf recipients, and as the Charity does not receive any Government funding, it relies on the support of individuals to fund this life-changing work.
