In the Doghouse

Staff at Hearing Dogs for Deaf People are ‘In The Doghouse’ for Fundraising Challenge

Staff from national charity, Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, are set to be ‘in the doghouse’ for real on Tuesday 14th September, as they each spend a night with a dog-in-training in a kennel at the Beatrice Wright Training Centre in Bielby to raise vital funds for the charity.

Seven staff from the Charity’s Welfare Team will be spending the night with the hard working dogs based at the centre and are looking forward to the challenge as organiser Judith Snell, Dog Welfare Manager at the Centre, explains:

‘It’s an unusual fundraiser but we’re all looking forward to it! We’re planning a barbeque for the participants and Hearing Dogs supporters before we bed down for the night with the dogs. It’ll be a treat for the dogs too, getting to spend some extra time with the team.’

Hearing Dogs for Deaf People trains dogs to alert deaf people to specific sounds, whether in the home, workplace or public buildings offering them greater independence, confidence and security. Over the past three decades the charity has trained over 1,500 dogs and has made a huge difference to the lives of the recipients.

Judith goes on to say:

‘The work we do is entirely funded by public donations so we hope that the local community will support us in our challenge, as we swap our duvets for vet bed and settle down in dog beds for the night!”
