Star Search

Specsavers hearing centres started working with Hearing Dogs for Deaf People as their national charity in 2008. Sound Barrier Star Awards is a joint initiative between Hearing Dogs for Deaf People and Specsavers Hearing Centres to find the nation’s heroes who are deaf or have profound hearing loss.

The awards will celebrate great endeavours among the deaf and hard of hearing community. They will honour someone who has done something exceptional, proved to be a great inspiration to others or who has simply overcome significant hurdles to live a normal life.

This year the awards are supported by actor William Roache MBE. Better known for his Coronation Street character Ken Barlow, William has been living with hearing difficulties for over 50 years. “Living with hearing difficulties is a challenge. It is truly inspirational to learn how other people manage and achieve their dreams and that is why I’m supporting Sound Barrier Stars. If you know somebody please nominate them...it’s a fantastic opportunity to celebrate their achievements.”

Specsavers will donate £5 to Hearing Dogs for Deaf People for every eligible entry received. The closing date for entries is Thursday 1 July 2010.
