Fundraiser of the month

March 2009

Kingscote Pre-Preparatory School in Buckinghamshire has been supporting Hearing Dogs for Deaf People for many years in memory of former pupil William Dodd who attended the school before his tragic death in December 2000.

Pictured right: William on his first day at Kingscote school

The boys at the school are now learning all about how hearing dogs work and the amazing difference that a hearing dog can make to the life of a deaf person. Some of the boys have enjoyed a visit to our main training centre and met some of our dogs in training. They are now raising funds by collecting 20 pence pieces in Smartie tubes for kind and helpful acts at home such as making their bed, loading the dishwasher and setting the table!

The school have in the past raised a phenomenal amount of money for Hearing Dogs and have sponsored a dog and a kennel. The aim for 2009 is to sponsor a hearing dog in memory of William. The Kingscote Channel Challenge is a group sponsored swim. Each team member will individually swim 21 miles (the length of the channel) in their local swimming pools. The whole school is involved in the campaign and there will be a special Charity Morning on Saturday 21 March with stalls, tombolas, fyball, circuits and refreshments for all at Kingscote.

Good luck to all the swimmers, pupils and supporters of the Kingscote Channel Challenge - they are now over halfway to their target of £5000, so to help them on their way please visit their online fundraising page
