Fundraiser of the month

December 2006

The Fundraiser of the Month accolade for December goes to a group from Liverpool.

Janet Howard of the St Helens and District fundraising branch of Hearing Dogs went to give a talk to the group, accompanied by hearing dog recipient Audrey with her hearing dog Harry, a few weeks after they had received their copy of the Charity’s Favour magazine.

Inside this issue of the magazine was a little cardboard kennel, flat-packed, but easy to transform into a 3D collecting box.  Janet takes up the story:

“This group place their cardboard kennel collecting box in pride of place on the table where they meet each week and invite visiting speakers to drop a few coins into it.  They also display a photo of hearing dog Harry with his deaf owner, Audrey - and tell every guest speaker all about the wonderful work that Hearing Dogs does.

“They gave us a £6.80 donation - which has taken months to collect in their cardboard kennel - and they bought some Christmas cards.  One lady even gave Audrey and me a packet of crackers and a packet of biscuits.....so thoughtful.  This group have so little but give so much; every week the kennel has pride of place and every visiting speaker hears all about Hearing Dogs.”

A spokesperson from Hearing Dogs’ head office said: “It’s great to hear that our cardboard collecting kennels are being put to such good use to raise not just vital funds for the Charity – but valuable awareness too.”
