Fundraiser of the month
September 2006
The fundraiser of the month for September 2006 is Aimee Tulley, next-door neighbour of hearing dog recipient Barbara Warner. Barbara has had hearing dogs for the last 12 years; initially handsome miniature poodle Jaffa and now striking black Shih Tzu Alfie.
Inspired by Alfie’s role in Barbara’s life, Aimee had an idea to raise funds for the Charity – and help her local community. She offered a shopping service for pensioners at the local club Barbara attends with Alfie. A dozen people were delighted by the idea and Aimee made several trips to local shops and supermarkets armed with around a dozen shopping lists!
Aimee said: “I only asked for the money to cover the cost of the shopping – but I said to people that if they wanted to make a donation to Hearing Dogs, that would be great. Lots of people contributed and I received around £50 for the Charity.”
Gemma Baxter from Hearing Dogs said: “It’s lovely that Aimee could help members of the local community and in turn support Hearing Dogs. By giving up her time she not only made her neighbours’ lives easier – but contributed to the life-changing partnership between a deaf person and their future hearing dog. £50 helps toward kennel enrichment for dogs in training: play castles, activity balls, smoked bones and other interactive toys help to entertain and relax the dogs in kennels when they are not working.”
