Members of the Car Club of Dorset on their charity cycle ride to Le Mans in aid of Hearing Dogs
The Fundraiser of the Month for April is the Car Club of Dorset - with an additional special acknowledgement to all TVR members worldwide who have helped them exceed their fundraising goals over the last decade of supporting Hearing Dogs!
Each year, the club's annual charity cycle to Le Mans in France sets the wheels in motion for its fundraising to sponsor its adopted charity Hearing Dogs.
Since its inauguration in 1996, when just two cyclists and two support team members undertook a charity cycle ride to Le Mans to watch its legendary 24-hour race, the club has raised nearly £25,000 for Hearing Dogs.
In 2005, the cycle team had increased its members to 17 and once again had their target set at £2,500. Team leader Paul Brazell-Shrimpton says: "Although we support Hearing Dogs throughout the year, the sponsored cycle is our main event and gives us a great head start. We complete the ride in three stages over three days. It's just a short trip down to the ferry port in Poole, where we catch the overnight ferry to Cherbourg; that's where the event really begins. We then do 75 miles to Vire, 90 miles to Pre-en-Pail and then the final 70 miles to our destination in Le Mans.
"As the week progresses, the roads get busier, the bars and restaurants noisier. Most people find time to watch some practice, and the street parade in Le Mans town on Friday afternoon is always well attended. We have a great time together; all the way through to the chequered flag... and, thanks to the support of TVR members nationwide, we're once again proud to have sponsored another hearing dog."
