Fundraiser of the month
January 2006
The first Fundraiser of the Month award for 2006 goes to a vet surgery in Wigan.
Vet nurses Lynn Ferguson and Sandy Anwyl from Little Lane Veterinary Clinic in Goose Green raise money each year for local and national animal charities – and they donated £100 to Hearing Dogs along with this festive message:
The Year’s end is here again,
a full 12 months of suffering and pain
for many pets alone out there,
whose owners neglected to care.
If it were not for the people out there,
who give their time throughout the year,
raising funds to pay for feed
and support the people who tend their need.
We’ve once again done our best,
Never taking time to stop and rest.
We’ve used our talents and raised some dosh,
to give the homeless some Christmas nosh.
We hope that this bit of festive cheer,
will carry on throughout the year.
We’re glad to help with the work that you do,
with our love this is sent to you.
Next year we will continue to do the same,
From the staff and clients at Little Lane.
Through various fundraising initiatives including a small animal boarding scheme, a Christmas craft stall and a raffle, they have amassed more than £700 for causes such as Hearing Dogs, Guide Dogs, Dogs for the Disabled, the Dogs’ Trust and the Cats Protection League as well as some smaller local charities.
Lynn says: “We developed the boarding scheme to cater specifically for small pets like guinea pigs, hamsters, rabbits and birds. It has been very popular – so it is worth booking as we are limited for space! We don’t charge much for looking after pets – but people often give donations as well.”
Another fundraising initiative was given a boost by local artist Adam Fryda, who donated a limited edition painting worth £50 for the vet clinic’s raffle. “Tickets cost just 25p so it was a good investment for one lucky winner!” says Lynn.
She adds: “Our Christmas craft stall was a great success this year with visitors to the clinic. Sandy and I both enjoyed making gifts in our own time to sell - and our cards, cross stitch gifts, home made Christmas decorations and pet Christmas stockings filled with treats were very popular with our clients. Thanks to their support we’ve been able to help several charities again this year.”
