Fundraiser of the month

December 2005

£150 helps pay for a puppy socilaising kit: bowl, collar, lead, toys, and a special den for the puppy to sleep in safely

Fluorescent Lighting Services Ltd are the festive Fundraisers of the Month for December!

The Birmingham-based lighting and electrical firm decided to donate the funds they would have spent on company Christmas cards to charity.

Bernadette Stone, Office Manager, explains: “Every year, Fluorescent Lighting Services buys and sends charity Christmas cards to all of our customers.  However, we discovered last year that less than six pence per card actually went to charity, effectively meaning we were donating less than £10 to our chosen cause.  So we have decided to do something different from now on.  Each year we will donate direct to a charity – starting with Hearing Dogs for Christmas 2005.

“We chose Hearing Dogs because we feel it is important to raise awareness for a charity that is not particularly well known!  Our General Manager, Stephen Hale is partially deaf, and my sister profoundly deaf and it makes you realise how much most of us take for granted.  My family were also involved in puppy socialising many years ago and we even adopted an unsuccessful hearing dog called Brae.

“Peter & Vicky Turner, the owners of the company, donate to various charities throughout the year and agreed that Hearing Dogs would be the ideal place to kick off the Company’s annual festive donation.  Hopefully sending letters to our customers explaining our decision will help spread awareness of a charity that is so often understated and overlooked.”

Our thanks go to Fluorescent Lighting Services for spreading the word and raising awareness and funds for Hearing Dogs.
