Recycling

Raise funds for Hearing Dogs and help the environment… by saving empty printer toners and cartridges, old mobile phones and used stamps.

We launched our recycling scheme with Reclaim-it in 2003 and since then you’ve helped us raise more than £45,000 – just by sending in your old printer cartridges and mobile phones.

To celebrate our 25th Anniversary in 2007 you supported the training of a second dog called Indi and we have given it the name ‘Jet’ as in inkjet. Indi, a gorgeous poodle cross cocker spaniel lives with his recipient Jane in the West Midlands.

During 2005 through recycling you supported hearing dog Dax (picured right), a handsome chocolate Labrador who is now transforming the life of a deaf lady in Sheffield. Dax was given the name ‘Sim’ to mark his proud association with the Reclaim-it scheme.

In 2007 we launched a brand new service – MyCartridge. You can now buy your printer cartridges direct from Reclaim-it and send your old ones back. For each purchase Hearing Dogs will receive a donation from Reclaim-it. Now you can buy and recycle whilst helping to raise funds for Hearing Dogs! For more information click here.

Reclaim-it will provide free of charge individual recycling bags, desk top boxes complete with bags (ideal for reception desks) and larger ‘office’ boxes (which hold multiple cartridges). Reclaim-it will also arrange to pick up your recycling office box free of charge.

  • A mobile phone plus battery (sim card removed) can raise up to £31 for Hearing Dogs
  • Most used printer cartridges (not Epson) can raise between 10p and £3

If you would like further details about our recycling scheme please contact us by telephone: 01844 348 100 or email info@hearingdogs.org.uk

Stamps

Just by tearing the stamps off letters, parcels and postcards you receive, you can raise vital funds for Hearing Dogs. Please leave a 1cm border around the stamp and sort into British and Foreign in order for us to maximise the funds raised.

You can send your used stamps direct to our dealer, marked Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, at PO Box 6198, Leighton Buzzard, Beds LU7 9GW. The dealer doesn’t have the facilities to be able to acknowledge your gift, however, should you wish to be kept informed as to where the valuable funds raised are spent, please contact our reception on 01844 348 100 or email info@hearingdogs.org.uk and they will be happy to send a letter.

  • In 2005 you helped support our first ‘stamp’ dog, Becks (Beckham), a spaniel from a litter of puppies all named for the 2004 England football team.
  • 2006 monies raised helped us support our second stamp dog, Penny, a black Labrador (Penny Black)
  • 2007 brought in £4,109.20 which along with the surplus from 2006’s means we now have the £5,000 needed to exclusively support a third stamp dog.

So you can see that every stamp you send plays a part in enabling us to help more deaf people and unwanted dogs.  Please keep the stamps coming and remember that no amount is too small!
Postcards

Our fundraisers in Scotland are raising funds from picture postcards as well as stamps. The card and stamp on it have to be left intact as the dealer has a special method of deleting address details and ensuring privacy. For further information, please contact our regional fundraiser in Scotland Margaret Arthur by email or on 0141 812 6542

Weather Lottery

Please help us raise much-needed funds for Hearing Dogs for Deaf People by participating in our new Lottery. Every line that is entered enables us to train more dogs for deaf people. So please help us by filling in your entry today. Your support is appreciated.

How does it work?

Choose six numbers from 0 to 9 and enter them in the centre panel inside the leaflet. If your numbers match the last digit of the daily Fahrenheit temperatures (in the right place) of Corfu, Istanbul, Tenerife, Innsbruck, Edinburgh and Stockholm, you win the top prize of… £10,000!

How much does it cost?

Each entry line (i.e. each set of six numbers) costs £1 per week. There is a draw every weekday from Monday to Thursday, so you have a chance of winning a prize four times a week!

How do I pay?

There are three ways to pay. Complete the monthly standing order, make a card payment or pay by cheque or postal order. Please make cheques payable to Prize Provision Services Ltd.

Where does my money go?

All the money is kept securely in a stakeholder fund, and more than a third comes back to us.
How do I know if I’ve won?

You can check your numbers in the Daily Telegraph or at www.theweatherlottery.com. However, there is no need for you to check them, as all prizes are guaranteed and sent out automatically.

Trusts and foundations

Hearing Dogs for Deaf People receives a large part of its fundraising income from charitable trusts and foundations and we are very grateful for such valuable funding.

For many years, both one-off and repeated grants from trusts have contributed towards funding our vital day-to-day running costs as well as specific projects, services and appeals.

This support is very important to us and, as the demand on our services continues to grow, so too does our need for financial assistance.

If you have links with a grant-making trust or foundation and think you can help us to achieve even more, we would love to hear from you.
