Northern Training Centre Buy a Brick Appeal...
...not just another brick in the wall! 
Building work began on the new training centre for national charity Hearing Dogs for Deaf People on Wednesday 21 November in Bielby, North Yorkshire, with the demolition of existing buildings on the site. This marks the start of construction which will hopefully be completed by mid-July 2008, and will allow the Charity to double the amount of dogs they train each year to help deaf people.
Hearing Dogs currently places 140 fully trained dogs each year with deaf people from their two training centres: in Buckinghamshire and in Cliffe, North Yorkshire. The Charity outgrew the site at Cliffe, and needed to move to bigger premises in order to train more dogs to meet the ever-increasing demand for working canine assistants.
When the centre is nearing completion, the Charity’s staff will be looking to recruit volunteers in the area to help socialise hearing dog puppies by taking them into their homes for a few months. In 2006 we were fortunate enough to secure and gain planning permission for a site near Bielby east Yorkshire for a purpose-built northern training centre which we hope will be operational in summer 2008.
The target for this appeal is a massive £2.5 million - over half of which has now been raised. We are now looking for our final £1 million and need your help to raise the funds to build the kennels, training houses, accommodation & offices.
You can help raise the funds for this much-needed new facility by buying a brick of support. In return your name will be placed in a book of recognition and thanks to be displayed at the new northern centre.
